Safe workplace deployment
Staff expected to use a fire blanket should read the printed instructions and understand the basic procedure before an incident occurs:
- Raise the alarm and ensure an escape route remains available.
- Pull the release tabs firmly downward.
- Hold the blanket so that it shields the hands and upper body.
- Approach only when the fire is small, contained and safely reachable.
- Place the blanket carefully over the entire burning area.
- Switch off the power, gas or heat source when this can be done safely.
- Leave the blanket in place until the equipment or material has cooled fully.
The employee should never place themselves between the fire and the only exit, reach over exposed flames or remain in an area filling with smoke.

Inspection and maintenance
