Best Fire Blankets for Car, BBQ & Outdoor Fires (EU)
Best Fire Blankets for Car, BBQ & Outdoor Fires (EU)
Fires involving barbecues, camping equipment and outdoor cooking can develop rapidly. Hot grease, open flames, gas supplies and combustible materials create situations in which a quick and controlled response is important. A fire blanket can provide an immediate first response for a small, contained fire that can be reached and completely covered safely.
A conventional fire blanket may also be useful in a car, camper, caravan or boat for small fires involving cooking equipment, clothing or portable appliances. It is not intended to cover an entire burning vehicle or to control a developed engine, fuel or battery fire.

Why a fire blanket is useful for mobile and outdoor safety
- Immediate flame suppression by restricting the oxygen supply
- No powder, propellant or chemical extinguishing residue
- Suitable for small, contained BBQ and outdoor cooking fires
- Compact enough for cars, campers, caravans and boats
DVM International fire blankets are manufactured for use in accordance with EN 1869:2019, the European standard for fire blankets. They are designed for real emergency use where the complete fire can be covered without placing the user in danger.
Do not use a fire blanket if flames have spread beyond the appliance or cooking area, if a gas or fuel supply cannot be shut off safely, or if you would need to reach into an engine compartment or through heavy smoke. Evacuate and contact the emergency services in these situations.
Independently TÜV SÜD Tested Under Controlled Fire-Test Conditions
The DVM 1 × 1 m fire blanket series has been independently tested by TÜV SÜD under controlled test conditions in accordance with EN 1869:2019.
- ✔ Official TÜV SÜD test report available
- ✔ Cooking-oil fire-test video published
- ✔ Heptane fire-performance test documented
- ✔ Independent third-party test evidence
The tests provide verifiable evidence of the performance of the tested DVM fire blanket series. They should be considered together with the scope, setup and results described in the official test report.
A practical choice for outdoor and mobile use
For mobile and outdoor locations, select a blanket that offers enough coverage for the intended risk while remaining practical to store and deploy. The fire must always remain small enough to cover completely.
The 1.2 × 1.8 m DVM fire blanket offers greater coverage for larger cooking appliances, clothing fires and outdoor situations where additional reach may be useful.

The 1.2 × 1.8 m size provides more coverage than the compact 1 × 1 m version, while remaining suitable for portable storage.

Greater coverage for outdoor cooking risks
The 1.2 × 1.8 m version is suitable where additional coverage may be required, such as around wider BBQs, outdoor cooking equipment, clothing fires or larger portable appliances.
It should not be used to reach inside a burning engine compartment or to cover a large fuel spill. In those situations, keep a safe distance and contact the emergency services.

Compact option for smaller contained fires
The 1 × 1 m version is suitable for many small cooking appliances, compact BBQs and other contained fire risks. Its smaller packed size makes it practical for cars, campers, caravans and boats.

How to use a fire blanket on a BBQ or outdoor cooking fire
Shut off the gas, electricity or other heat source only when this can be done safely. Pull the release tabs, protect your hands behind the blanket and place it carefully over the complete fire.
Do not throw the blanket from a distance and do not lift it prematurely to check whether the fire has gone out. Leave it in place until the appliance, pan, cooking oil and surrounding materials have cooled fully.
Wind can make outdoor deployment more difficult. Do not attempt to use the blanket when wind is blowing flames, sparks or the blanket toward you.

Can a fire blanket be used for a vehicle fire?
A conventional fire blanket may help with a small, accessible fire inside or around a vehicle when the burning object can be fully covered. Examples may include a small cooking appliance in a camper, burning clothing or another small removable object.
It is not designed to cover an entire vehicle, suppress a developed engine fire or control a lithium-ion traction-battery fire. A vehicle-sized Fire Limitation Blanket is a separate professional product category intended for vehicle fire incidents.

European fire safety for real outdoor risks
DVM International fire blankets are manufactured from densely woven fibreglass fabric of at least 430 g/m². Product suitability depends on the complete construction, dimensions, seams, pull tabs, instructions and documented fire performance — not only on a temperature or fabric-weight claim.
The DVM 1 × 1 m series is supported by independent TÜV SÜD test documentation. For questions about EN 1869:2019, safe use, sizing, inspection, storage and replacement, visit our Fire Blanket FAQs.
