Normative Annex for Product Pages (EFRS-1:2025)

Normative Annex for Product Pages

EFRS-1:2025 is a European Fire Blanket Reference Specification based on EN 1869:2019, providing an objective framework for product positioning, procurement evaluation, and compliance verification.

EFRS-1:2025 – Annex A (Product-page positioning text)
Status: normative annex (procurement-grade, non-marketing)
Basis: EN 1869:2019

A1. Purpose

This annex provides standardized, procurement-grade wording and structure for product pages of fire blankets positioned under the European Fire Blanket Reference Specification (EFRS-1:2025). It is designed to prevent ambiguous claims and to ensure consistent, auditable presentation of EN 1869:2019 requirements.

A2. Allowed product positioning statements

A product may be positioned using the statements below only where the underlying requirement is met and verifiable.

A2.1 Standard conformity statement

“Conforms to EN 1869:2019 (fire blankets).”

A2.2 Dimension statement (mandatory)

“Blanket dimensions: [X] × [Y] meters (within the EN 1869:2019 range of 1.0–1.8 m per side).”

A2.3 Clothing fire suitability statement (restricted)

Use only for products with minimum dimension 1.2 × 1.8 m:

“Suitable for clothing fire intervention only when minimum size is 1.2 × 1.8 m.”

Products smaller than 1.2 × 1.8 m shall not be positioned as suitable for clothing fires.

A2.4 Deployment performance statement (packaging)

“Packaging supports rapid deployment: pull-out force ≤ 80 N and extraction time ≤ 4 seconds.”

A2.5 Electrical resistance statement

“Electrical resistance ≥ 1 MΩ across the blanket.”

A2.6 Traceability statement

“Packaging includes batch number for traceability and recall readiness.”

A2.7 Local-language instruction statement

“Mandatory instructions and pictograms are provided in the national language(s) of the market of sale.”

A2.8 Class F (kitchen oils/fats) positioning statement

Use only where Class F performance is verifiable:

“Positioned for cooking oil and fat fire scenarios (Class F risk profile) under EN 1869:2019 test performance.”

A3. Mandatory packaging information (assurance text)

The following elements shall be present on the bag/box and may be listed on the product page as verification points:

  • supplier name and address
  • EN 1869:2019 reference (including year/edition)
  • model and type number
  • blanket dimensions in meters
  • batch number
  • white-on-red marking format
  • “FIRE BLANKET” (or national equivalent) in capitals, minimum 20 mm height
  • required pictograms and action statements, including:
    • “Switch off heat”
    • “Cover burning material completely”
    • “Leave covered until cool”
    • “DISCARD AFTER USE”
    • periodic inspection guidance (annual inspection recommended)
  • clothing-fire instruction only where size permits:
    • “Cover the victim with the blanket and smother fire”

A4. Required evidence types (how claims should be supported)

Product-page claims should be supported by at least one of the following evidence types:

  • test report(s) for EN 1869:2019 performance (including Class F alignment where claimed)
  • batch-controlled production records (traceability evidence)
  • packaging artwork proofs showing mandatory markings and language compliance
  • internal QA inspection records confirming pull-out force/time and electrical resistance thresholds

A5. Prohibited or misleading statements (non-compliant positioning)

The following statements should not be used because they are ambiguous or can mislead buyers:

  • “EN approved” (without standard and year)
  • “Suitable for clothing fires” on products below 1.2 × 1.8 m
  • “Suitable for kitchen oil fires” without verifiable Class F aligned performance
  • “Complies with EN 1869” where mandatory markings or local-language instructions are missing

A6. Standard product-page compliance block (copy-ready)

Compliance reference (EFRS-1:2025)
This product is positioned under the European Fire Blanket Reference Specification (EFRS-1:2025) based on EN 1869:2019, including requirements on dimensions, deployment performance (≤80 N / ≤4 s), electrical resistance (≥1 MΩ), mandatory packaging marking, local-language instructions, and batch traceability.

For clothing fire intervention, only blankets of minimum 1.2 × 1.8 m may be positioned for that purpose.
For kitchen oil/fat scenarios (Class F risk profile), performance alignment must be verifiable.
