How Much Does a Fire Blanket Cost in Europe?
Fire blankets are relatively affordable fire-safety products, but prices can differ considerably. The final price depends on the blanket dimensions, packaging, construction, documentation, independent testing, warranty and the quantity purchased.
A lower price is not automatically a bargain, and a higher price does not by itself prove better performance. The important question is what product, evidence and supplier support are included in the price.

Why do fire blanket prices differ?
Two products that look similar in an online photograph may differ in size, fabric construction, seams, packaging, markings, instructions, traceability, test documentation and warranty.
The main price factors are:
- blanket dimensions;
- fabric and complete product construction;
- bag or rigid box packaging;
- independent product testing and technical documentation;
- marking, instructions and traceability;
- warranty and supplier support; and
- order quantity.
1. Blanket size and coverage
A larger fire blanket requires more fabric, longer seams and larger packaging. It therefore normally costs more than a smaller version of comparable construction.
1 × 1 m fire blanket
A 1 × 1 m fire blanket is suitable for many small, contained risks, including:
- standard pans and domestic kitchen fires;
- small cooking-oil and fat fires;
- compact cooking appliances; and
- small, fully coverable objects.

1.2 × 1.8 m fire blanket
A 1.2 × 1.8 m fire blanket provides substantially more surface area. It is the preferred DVM size where greater coverage is required, including:

- clothing-fire preparedness; and
- workplaces, schools and care environments with varied risks.
The larger size should not be purchased merely because “bigger is always better.” It should match the identified risk and remain practical for the intended users to deploy.

2. Fabric and complete product construction
Most conventional fire blankets are manufactured from woven fibreglass. However, the word “fibreglass” alone says little about the finished product’s quality.
Relevant construction characteristics include:
- fabric composition and consistency;
- fabric weight in grams per square metre;
- weave density;
- edge and seam construction;
- pull tabs and their attachment;
- finished dimensions;
- folding and packaging; and
- documented performance of the complete product.
DVM fire blankets use densely woven fibreglass fabric of at least 430 g/m². GSM is a useful product specification, but it should never be treated as proof of fire performance on its own.
A heavier fabric may contain more material, but actual product suitability also depends on the complete construction and applicable test results.

3. Safety Bag or Premium Box
DVM supplies the same available blanket sizes in either a flexible Safety Bag or a rigid Premium Box. The rigid box costs slightly more because it uses a larger and more protective packaging system.
Safety Bag
The Safety Bag is suitable where compact and flexible storage is important, including:
- homes and apartments;
- small kitchens;
- campers, caravans and boats;
- mobile safety equipment; and
- locations with limited wall space.
The bag can be wall mounted and must remain visible and accessible. It should not be hidden inside a drawer or cupboard behind the likely fire source.
Premium Box
The Premium Box may be preferable for:
- permanent wall-mounted installation;
- shared or public environments;
- commercial kitchens and workplaces;
- locations where visual recognition is important; and
- areas where the packed blanket needs additional protection.
The box does not change the underlying fire blanket performance. Its added value lies in protection, visibility and a consistent installation position.
4. Independent testing and technical evidence
Product testing and documentation contribute to cost, but they also allow the buyer to verify what is being purchased.

A professional fire blanket is more than a piece of folded fabric. Buyers should also check whether the product includes:
- clear supplier identification;
- model and dimensions;
- batch identification;
- operating pictograms;
- instructions in the appropriate market language;
- discard-after-use information;
- inspection guidance; and
- a defined warranty and responsible supplier.
These elements support correct use, traceability, inspection and professional procurement. They also require product development, artwork, quality control and stock management.
6. Warranty and long-term value
The cheapest purchase price is not necessarily the lowest long-term cost. A product that arrives without suitable instructions, becomes damaged in storage or cannot be traced may need to be replaced before it is ever used.
DVM fire blankets are supplied with a 10-year warranty, subject to the applicable warranty terms and correct storage, inspection and handling.
Annual visual inspection remains necessary throughout the service period. The blanket must be replaced immediately after deployment on an actual fire, or earlier if it becomes damaged or contaminated.
