Normativer Anhang für Produktseiten

EFRS-1:2025 is a DVM-developed European Fire Blanket Reference Specification informed by the requirements and principles of EN 1869:2019. It provides an objective framework for product positioning, procurement evaluation and documentary compliance verification.

A1. Zweck

This annex provides standardised, procurement-grade wording and structure for product pages of fire blankets positioned within the European Fire Blanket Reference Specification (EFRS-1:2025).

It is intended to prevent ambiguous or unsupported claims and to support a consistent, auditable presentation of product characteristics, evidence and requirements associated with EN 1869:2019.

Use of EFRS wording does not by itself demonstrate product conformity. Every statement must correspond with the actual product specification, markings, instructions, traceability records and applicable test evidence.

A2. Allowed Product Positioning Statements

A product may use the statements below only where the complete underlying requirement is applicable, met and supported by verifiable evidence.

A2.1 Standardkonformitätserklärung

Permitted wording where fully supported:

“Conforms to EN 1869:2019 — Fire Blankets.”

This wording should not be used solely on the basis of a fabric certificate, general supplier declaration or test report that cannot be traced to the product being supplied.

A2.2 Dimension statement

“Blanket dimensions: [X] × [Y] metres.”

Where relevant within the EFRS framework, the product page may additionally state that the dimensions fall within the applicable EN 1869:2019 range of 1.0 to 1.8 m per side.

A2.3 Clothing-fire suitability statement (restricted)

Use only for products with minimum dimensions of 1.2 × 1.8 m and with suitable product instructions:

“Suitable for clothing-fire intervention where the fire blanket is used in accordance with the supplied instructions.”

Within the EFRS framework, products smaller than 1.2 × 1.8 m shall not be positioned as suitable for clothing-fire intervention.

A2.4 Deployment-performance statement

Use only where supported by applicable evidence:

“Packaging supports rapid deployment, with a pull-out force not exceeding 80 N and an extraction time not exceeding four seconds.”

A2.5 Electrical-resistance statement

Use only where supported by applicable test evidence:

“Electrical resistance is at least 1 MΩ at the applicable measured points on the blanket.”

This statement does not mean that the blanket is electrical personal protective equipment or that it is safe to touch exposed live components. The electrical supply should be isolated whenever this can be done safely.

A2.6 Erklärung zur Rückverfolgbarkeit

“Packaging includes product and batch identification to support traceability and corrective action where required.”

A2.7 Erklärung zu Anweisungen in Landessprache

“Mandatory user instructions and pictograms are supplied in an official national language of the intended market.”

The actual languages supplied should be identified accurately. A general multilingual claim should not be used when the product does not contain all languages relevant to the markets in which it is offered.

A2.8 Class F cooking-oil and fat fire statement

Use only where the relevant cooking-oil fire performance is verifiable:

“Intended for small, contained cooking-oil and fat fire scenarios, supported by applicable EN 1869:2019 fire-performance evidence.”

The statement should be limited to small fires that can be safely and completely covered. Water must never be poured onto burning cooking oil or fat.

A3. Mandatory Packaging Information

Within the EFRS framework, the following elements should be present on the bag or rigid box and may be listed on the product page as verification points where they are actually provided:

• supplier or responsible economic operator name and address
• EN 1869:2019 reference, including the applicable edition or year
• model and type identification
• blanket dimensions in metres
• batch number or equivalent traceability identification
• white text on a red background where required
• “FIRE BLANKET,” or the national-language equivalent, in capital letters with the required minimum character height
• erforderliche Piktogramme und Handlungsanweisungen, einschließlich:
  • „Wärmequelle abschalten“
  • „Brennendes Material vollständig abdecken“
  • „Abgedeckt lassen, bis es abgekühlt ist“
  • „NACH GEBRAUCH ENTSORGEN“
  • periodic inspection guidance
• clothing-fire instructions only where the product dimensions and intended use support this application

DVM recommends a documented visual inspection at least once every year. More frequent inspection may be required in professional, public, mobile or high-risk environments.

A4. Required Evidence Types

Product-page claims should be supported by evidence appropriate to the specific statement being made. Depending on the claim, relevant evidence may include:

• product test reports covering the applicable EN 1869:2019 requirements and the relevant model, size and construction
• cooking-oil fire-performance evidence where kitchen or Class F suitability is claimed
• batch-controlled production and quality records supporting traceability
• approved packaging artwork showing required markings, instructions and languages
• documented product inspections and measurements for dimensions, extraction time, pull-out force and electrical resistance
• records demonstrating that the product supplied corresponds with the tested and documented product specification

Internal quality records can support routine production control, but they do not replace independent or otherwise applicable product test evidence where such evidence is necessary to substantiate a performance claim.

A5. Prohibited or Misleading Statements

The following statements should not be used because they are ambiguous, unsupported or capable of misleading buyers:

• “EN approved” without identifying the exact standard, edition and supporting evidence
• “Certified to EN 1869:2019” where no applicable product certification has been issued
• “Suitable for clothing fires” on products below 1.2 × 1.8 m within the EFRS framework
• “Suitable for kitchen oil fires” without applicable and traceable cooking-oil fire-performance evidence
• “Complies with EN 1869:2019” where required markings, instructions, traceability or supporting performance evidence are absent
• “Fireproof,” “works on all fires” or other absolute performance claims
• statements suggesting that a fire blanket removes the need for evacuation, alarms, emergency services or other appropriate fire-safety equipment

A6. Standard Product-Page Compliance Block

Compliance reference — EFRS-1:2025

This product is evaluated and positioned within the European Fire Blanket Reference Specification (EFRS-1:2025), a DVM-developed reference framework informed by EN 1869:2019.

The applicable product documentation addresses dimensions, deployment performance, electrical resistance, packaging markings, user instructions and product traceability. Individual statements apply only where the relevant requirement is met and supported by evidence for the product being supplied.

Within the EFRS framework, only blankets with minimum dimensions of 1.2 × 1.8 m may be positioned for clothing-fire intervention. Cooking-oil and fat fire positioning must be supported by applicable fire-performance evidence.

EFRS-1:2025 is not a separate European standard or product certification and does not replace EN 1869:2019, applicable legislation or the manufacturer’s instructions.
