Fire Limitation Blanket Inspection Guidelines
These Inspection Guidelines provide practical recommendations for the routine inspection, storage and post-use assessment of Fire Limitation Blankets, commonly referred to as EV fire blankets, electric vehicle fire blankets, vehicle fire blankets or car fire blankets.
The guidance is intended for professional users, distributors, OEM customers, fleet operators, fire brigades and facility managers. It complements the DVM Fire Limitation Blanket Reference and does not replace manufacturer instructions or applicable regulations.
Purpose of inspection
The objective of routine inspection is to confirm that the blanket remains ready for immediate deployment and that no visible damage or deterioration has occurred during storage or handling.

DVM recommends a documented visual inspection at least once every year. More frequent inspections may be appropriate where blankets are exposed to heavy use, outdoor conditions, industrial contamination or frequent handling.
Routine inspection checklist
- Storage bag or container is clean and undamaged.
- Blanket is stored dry and protected from unnecessary UV exposure.
- Wall mounting or storage location is secure and accessible.
- Pull straps or lifting loops are present and undamaged.
- Product identification remains readable.
- No signs of cuts, tears, burns or damaged stitching.
- No visible contamination by oil, chemicals or battery residues.
- Operating instructions remain available.
Storage recommendations
- Store in a clean and dry environment.
- Avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight.
- Prevent contact with aggressive chemicals.
- Do not place heavy objects on the blanket.
- Ensure immediate accessibility during an incident.
Inspection after deployment
After any operational use, the blanket should be removed from normal service until it has been assessed.
- Check for thermal damage.
- Inspect seams and lifting loops.
- Inspect coatings for visible damage.
- Check for contamination from smoke, soot or battery residues.
- Verify that identification remains legible.
If the condition of the blanket cannot be confirmed with confidence, it should be replaced.
Reuse
