Fire-extinguishers
Fire extinguishers can be used to extinguish small fires that are still in the early stages. A fire extinguisher usually consists of a metal, cylindrical, housing in which the extinguishing agent is located. By means of pressure, when the lever is pressed or a lock is pulled out, the extinguishing agent is expelled.
Applications of fire extinguishers
Fires are divided into classes, based on the substance that is burning:
Class A: Solid, non-melting substances, such as paper, wood, textiles, packaging materials
Class B: Liquids and melting solids, such as solvents, oil, petrol, wax, grease, plastics
Class C: Gases, such as natural gas, LPG, Butane, propane
Class D: Metals, such as aluminium, lithium, magnesium
Class F: Fats, such as frying fat, fondue oil, vegetable and animal fats
For use in homes and SMEs, foam extinguishers and powder extinguishers are recommended.
Special foam extinguishers
The special foam extinguishers that we offer are suited for fire classes A, B and F. Especially Class F is important as fat is abundant in kitchens and garages.
- Note 1: regular foam extinguishers are not suited for Class F fires!
- Note 2: Foam extinguishers are usually on water-based and cannot be used outdoors in winter time due to freezing temperatures. That not only lock the usage of the extinguisher, but can rupture the metal housing of the extinguisher.
Powder extinguishers
Powder extinguishers are suited for fire classes A, B and C. The advantage of powder extinguishers over foam extinguishers is that the powder extinguishers can be stored when temperatures can go below zero: the powder cannot freeze. Powder extinguishers are frost-resistant up to -30 °C ( -22 °F). A powder extinguisher does leave behind a blanket of residue that is difficult to remove and therefore causes a lot of damage.
