Fire-blankets
Fire blankets are used to extinguish fires that are still in the early stages and localised. Examples are a frying pan on fire, a dustbin that caught fire, a mattress, etc. But also a person(s clothes) that has caught fire. When putting the fire-blanket over the fire in the correct way it prevents oxygen from reaching the fire and consequently the fire goes out. Do not remove the fire blanket too early! The fire may still be hot and allowing the oxygen to reach the source of the fire again may re-ignite the fire.
Types of fire blankets
Basically, there are two types of materials used to make fire blankets: wool and fiberglass. All our fire blankets are made of fiberglass that is specially impregnated.
Packaging of fire blankets
Fire blankets are usually packed in two types: a soft bag or a hard(er) plastic box. Packing fire blankets in a bag is cheaper, but packaging in a box looks nicer. A fire blanket in a bag or box can be attached to the wall or a cupboard wall. In any case, make sure that they are hung up clearly visible and within reach. We offer fire blankets both in bags and in boxes. By pulling the black tabs you can easily and quickly remove the fire blanket from the packaging.
Seizes of fire blankets
Fire blankets can be supplied in various seizes, depending on the intended use for the fire blanket. We recommend (and offer) fire blankets with the dimension of 1x1 meter in a bag, of 1,2x1,2 meter in a box that are intended to be used in a kitchen. These dimensions are easy to handle, for example to place over a pan on fire. We also offer a larger fire blanket with the seize of 1,2x1,8 meter that is intended to be used on a person whose clothes have caught fire: you can wrap the person in the fire blanket and thereby prevent oxygen from reaching him (please, keep his/her head out of the fire blanket to allow breathing).
Advantages of fire blankets
The advantages of fire blankets are that one does not need a special training on how to use them. Fire blankets do not have the risk of getting an electric shock, contrary to fire-extinguishers on a water base (foam). Fire blankets are relatively cheap to buy and can be re used in case of a not too big fire.
