How can carbon-monoxide-alarms protect me from brain- and organ damage?
Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless gas that can be caused by incomplete combustion. Incomplete combustion happens when insufficient oxygen can enter the combustion process. In that case not CO2 (carbon-dioxide), but CO (carbon-monoxide) is generated.
Examples where that can happen are an open fireplace, central heating boiler, geyser, garage (e.g. running engine of car/motorcycle/moped, lawn mower) etc. And carbon monoxide attaches much more easily to haemoglobin in your blood (which transports oxygen through your body) than oxygen. Your brain is most sensitive to the absence of oxygen. It can be irreparably damaged within minutes, which can cause you to become disabled or even die.
Carbon-monoxide-alarms
A carbon-monoxide-alarm generates an alarm when the level of Carbon monoxide (CO) exceeds a certain level. Many CO-alarms have a display where you can read the actual CO-concentration. Carbon monoxide is dangerous in two ways: low level concentrations can harm you in the long run, high level concentrations can harm you acutely. Therefore, the level at which the Carbon-monoxide-alarm generates an alarm is quite low, to protect you from low-level/long term harms.
Carbon-monoxide-alarm with a fixed 10-year battery
Our carbon-monoxide-alarms of the DVM-CBL30 Series have a fixed 3V battery that lasts 10 years. No battery replacement is required during the legal lifetime of your smoke-alarm. After that period, you must replace the carbon-monoxide alarm with a new one. The only maintenance remaining is to clean the carbon-monoxide alarm once a month with a vacuum cleaner to keep the slots, that allow air to enter the detection chamber, open.
Carbon-monoxide-alarm with an alarm-pause-button
Our carbon-monoxide-alarms of the DVM-CDA30 and DVM-CBL30 Series are equipped with an Alarm-pause-button. If the carbon-monoxide-alarm goes off it will produce a nerving sound of over 84 dB (decibels) and the LED flashes.
To allow you to stay calm and investigate the source of the alarm, it is possible to temporarily switch-off the carbon-monoxide-alarm-sound for some 8 minutes.
If you have not found the source of the incomplete combustion that generates the carbon monoxide after that period, the alarm-sound will come back. In that case we advise you to leave the premises and call the fire brigade from outside your house. Do NOT get back into the house, e.g. to retrieve belongings, until the fire brigade allows you to get back-in.
Easy installation of a carbon-monoxide-alarm
Our carbon-monoxide-alarms are easy to install.
You can just place them on a table near the potential source of an incomplete combustion. Or you can attach the carbon-monoxide to the wall, using the mounting plate.
Interlinked carbon-monoxide-alarms
For maximum safety, choose our interlinked carbon-monoxide-alarms: if one carbon-monoxide-alarm goes off all connected carbon-monoxide-alarms, smoke-alarms and heat-alarms go off. You will thus be warned in the basement even if the alarm goes off in the attic.
ALL OUR INTERLINKEABLE CARBON-MONOXIDE-ALARMS HAVE AN R (for Radio) IN THE TYPE-NUMBER
